Which sea it came from,
on the label.

Fish has to be labelled with its species, how it was caught and which area it came from. Most shops treat that as paperwork. It is the most useful information on the counter.

How we work

A Brussels shop, registered and labelled properly

RA ONE is a company incorporated under Belgian law, registered with the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises under enterprise number 1006.137.547, trading from 1224 Chaussée de Gand in 1082 Berchem-Sainte-Agathe. We operate under Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain registration [AFSCA REGISTRATION NUMBER] with a HACCP-based self-checking system.

Three things we do because they are required and because they are useful. The unit price per kilo or litre appears on every label, which is the only fair way to compare two sizes. Fishery products carry the species, the production method and the catch area, as EU rules require. And we apply the Belgian age limits on alcohol — sixteen for beer, wine and other fermented drinks, eighteen for spirits — asking for identification where age is not obvious. Our shop handles gluten, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, nuts, sesame and soya, so nothing is sold as free from any allergen.

Frequently asked

The questions we get most

Why is the price per kilo on everything?

Because it is the only honest way to compare a small packet with a large one, and it is required by law. It is also where you find out that the bigger pack sometimes costs more per kilo.

What does the fish label actually tell me?

The species in both its commercial and scientific name, whether it was caught or farmed, and the sea area or country it came from. That is required by EU rules and it tells you more than the price does.

Can I buy wine at sixteen?

Beer, wine and other fermented drinks, yes — Belgian law sets sixteen for those. Spirits and anything containing distilled alcohol is eighteen. We apply both and ask for ID where age is not obvious.

Do you have anything free from nuts?

Not guaranteed. Our shop handles nuts, gluten, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, sesame and soya, so cross-contact cannot be excluded. We will give you the full ingredients for anything, and if an allergy is severe please talk to us in person.

Will you order something in for me?

Usually, if a supplier carries it. Ask at the counter and we will tell you honestly whether we can get it and roughly when.

Do you reduce things near their date?

Yes, while they are still good rather than once they are not. Ask what has been marked down — produce especially moves fast.

Looking for something we do not have?

Ask at the counter. If a supplier carries it, we will order it in.
